Swimming Programs
-
Diaper Divers
Creates a positive experience for parent & child, as child is introduced
to the pool. Child will learn water adjustment and basic swimming skills.
Ages 8 months (6 mths. If crawling) to 4 years old.
-
Level I — Water Exploration
(4 Yrs & up or previous swim experience)
This level is for new swimmers. It will introduce your child to the fun of
water! Children will learn the safe way to enter the pool, rhythmic
breathing, (breathing out underwater, in above water), floats, glides,
underwater exploration (opening eyes and relaxing with head underwater)
and beginner stroke (much like doggy paddle).
-
Level 2 — Primary Skills
This level is for swimmers who can float on their own but still
need work on the beginner stroke. Students will review water exploration
skills. They will refine their rhythmic breathing, glide and floats.
Students will master beginner stroke and learn front crawl (often called
freestyle). Back crawl will be introduced along with several water
entries.
-
Level 3 — Stroke Readiness
This level will concentrate on refining front and back crawl strokes.
Rhythmic breathing will be combined with the front crawl. Many water
entries will be refined. Students will learn how to make open turns on the
pool walls. Elementary backstroke is introduced at this level also.
-
Level 4-Stroke Development
Front and back crawl strokes will be reviewed at this level. Elementary
backstroke will mastered. Survival stroke and other lifesaving techniques
will be introduced. Students will learn to swim for 3 to 4 body lengths.
Breast stroke and sidestroke kicks are also introduced at this level.
-
Level 5 — Stroke Refinement
Breaststroke kick is mastered and breaststroke arms and timing are
introduced. Sidestroke kick is mastered and sidestroke arms and timing are
introduced also. Elementary backstroke, front and back crawl are all
reviewed. Front and back open turns are reviewed. Students work to
increase their swimming endurance as well.
-
Level 6 — Skill Proficiency
Breaststroke, sidestroke, front and back crawl, and elementary backstroke
are reviewed. Basic rescue strokes and skills are taught.
-
Level 7 — Advanced Skills
All strokes are reviewed and improved. Butterfly stroke is introduced.
Students must be able to swim each stroke for 100 yards. Majority of time
is spent building endurance. Students will work to increase their swimming
endurance.
-
